About Human Atlas
An open source anatomy explorer built around the BodyParts3D adult male reference.
Open the interactive anatomy explorer ↗Where the model comes from
The current model uses BodyParts3D 4.0 from the Database Center for Life Science. Its 2,234 individual source meshes are connected to 3,432 named anatomical concepts. A concept can refer to several pieces, which explains why search selections and system totals can show different counts.
The dataset represents a particular adult male reference. It does not include every human structure, sex, age or anatomical variation. The interface supports educational exploration and is not a diagnostic or surgical tool.
How the browser version was adapted
The original geometry was converted to the viewer's coordinate system and units, simplified for browser delivery, and packed into binary chunks. Normals were quantized, and display colors and system groupings were assigned for exploration. Every original mesh remains represented, and its source identity is preserved in the model catalogue.
The exploded view arranges pieces for browsing; it does not preserve their original positions. Return to the assembled model before comparing spatial relationships. Read the anatomy explorer guide for controls and viewing tips.
